Howard The Duck
Director: Willard Huyck,
Cast : Tim Robbins, Lea Thompson
Trailer here
There is going to be some changes on my updates from now on.
I am going to focusing on reminding people of the brilliant B-movie classics from now on and doing less of actual main stream critics, mainly because I suck at it and I am to lazy! But my fellow bloggers will continue doing their usual stuff.
I am starting these changes with the movie Howard the duck.
This movie belongs with all the best B movies out there! It is based on the infamous marvel caracter Howard, who happens to be a duck from another univers. This movie has it all, a great story line, special effects, cool music and the hot chick played by Lea Thompson. If I have to compare it to other movies than its as fun as the Goonies and He-Man (starring Dolph Lundgren).
Go see it and have fun!

Precious
Director: Lee Daniels
Writers : Geoffrey Fletcher
Screenplay: Sapphire (novel)
Cast: Gabourey Sidibe, Mo'Nique, Lenny Kravitz, Paula Patton, Mariah Carey
Rating: 5
This is a dramatic movie about a teenage girl wo happens to be extremely overweight. On top of that her father sexually abuses her from age 3, and she now has two of his babies. Her mother becomes hostile towards her daughter because she thinks her husbands prefers her daughter instead of her. So poor Precious is not at a good place!
But this is not a totally feel bad movie, it has some interesting plots, and scenarios that is totally alien to me. I am rating this movie a bit low, mainly because I fell asleep 4 times during it, but could maintain the story line whatsoever.
My girlfriend enjoyed it more then I did and I assume that she would give it higher marks.
It was interesting to see Mariah Carey in this movie, I actually think that she was ok.
So, dont go to the movies for this one, wait until its on the telly and maybe watch it then if there is nothing else more interesing going on!

It´s Complicated
January 21, 2010 (Denmark)
Genre: Comedy
Cast: Meryl Streep, Steve Martin, Alec Baldwin, John Krasinski, Lake Bell
Trailer 1 | Trailer 2
Rating : 8
Just finished watching this movie, a one of Uffe´s recommendations for a this years films to see (see previous post). This is a really good feel good movie, specially if you need to watch something with your girlfriend. We all know that we are forced once in a while to see something they want to see, which maybe is only fair when you have had your 24 hour marathon starting with the special long edition of the lord of the rings followed up with the 6 star wars movies.
But back to the movie, it was funny, good story line, and considering that this is a typical chick flick, I could easily last over it. So in my opinion you should check this one out, even worth the movie ticket for some of you.

Whatever Works
"I'm not a like-able guy. Charm has never been a priority with me.
And just so you know, this is not the feel good movie of the year. So if you're one of those idiots who needs to feel good, go get yourself a foot massage."
This about sums it up. Fantastic film by Woody allen with Larry David from "Curb Your Enthusiasm" in the lead role as the "Grumpy knowitall"
There is alot of talking in the movie and no action what so ever so when you watch it be ready for some serius brain candy.
A must see for woody allen fans!

Flickan som lekte med elden
Better than the first one Män som hatar kvinnor.
This movie is faster and there is always something happening so you don´t wanna miss a second.
Noomi Rapace is as fantastic like she was in Män som hatar kvinnor.
Never a dull moment and a great plot.
This one gets 5/5

Cast:Sofia Vergara, Ed O´Neil, plus many more upcoming comedy stars..

Trailer
I welcome this fresh new family episodes, a lot in the spirit of my all time favourite The Arrested Development. From the first episode I started to laugh out Loud (LOL for the computer nerds out there), that rarely happens because usually it takes at least one or two episodes to get to know the caracters and the humor involved. I am half way with the first serises and can't wait to see the rest. I just wanted to share this with you guys and hope that you find the time to check this one out.
P.s the scene where the gay couple introduce their newly adopted baby to the family is brilliant (in episode 1), the Lion king theme song, costumes and lights, cant go wrong!!!

Observe and Report
13 May 2009 (Denmark)
Rating: 2.7
Genre: Comedy
Director: Jody Hill
Do NOT let the trailer fool you into believing that this is actually a funny movie... It's not! There is a few laughs in it - but not worth spending neither the time or the money on.
Seth Rogen plays the main character Ronnie Barnhardt who is a security guard at a mall, and he sucks... I don't wanna blame it all on Seth Rogen, 'cause I don't think anyone would be able to make this character funny - but when Rogen sucks... He sucks big time.
Ronnie Barnhardt comes of as a bloated, depressing, dysfunctional man - who instead of being funny to watch - most of the time is just plain obnoxious.
The plot is so thin and meaningless, that I think, someone had the idea that showing a flasher runing around naked in a mall for around 60 sec. would be fun. And then everything else has been build around as an excuse to show this moment.
To sum it up... This was 1,5 hour of my life that I could have spent way better! Don't make the same mistake - steer clear from this movie!
Daybreakers
Trailer
Rating : 8.1
Genre : Thriller/Drama
Director : The Spierig brothers
Cast : Ethan Hawke, Willian Dafoe, Sam Neill
In the year 2019, a plague has transformed most every human into vampires. Faced with a dwindling blood supply, the fractured dominant race plots their survival.
That is it plot for this refreshing Vampire movie, Lately vampire movies have been increasingly popular and people don't seem to get tired of this myth. I am one of those people that really loves a good vampire story. Daybreaker is one of those stories!
It has a good plot, great vampire scenes and an original approach to this subject. The casing is great, I am a William Dafoe Fan, loved him the the Nosferatu remake, the shadow of the vampire
What bugged me was that they took all the myths regarding vampires and applied them, such as that vampires can not been seen in mirrors. I though they could easily skip that minor detail. Also they could have easily made scarier and darker scenes with this material.
But I enjoyed it, will probably see it again when it's out on DVD.

Up coming movies in January and February
This is a list over new movies coming out in January and February that might be worth checking out. The expectation level is a rating from 0 to 10 on how much potential the movie has.
Youth In Revolt
January 8, 2010 (USA)
Expectation level: 8.6
Genre: Comedy | Drama | Romance
Cast: Michael Cera, Portia Doubleday, Jean Smart, Zach Galifianakis, Steve Buscemi, Ray Liotta, Justin Long
Trailer 1 | Trailer 2
I am soooo looking forward to this movie. I'm a big fan of Michael Cera (Arrested Developments, Juno, Super Bad, Year One) who plays the main character Nick Twisp and his rebellious alter ego: Francois.
The quick storyline is that Nick Twisp – who is a 16 year old virgin, born into a white trailer trash family – falls hopelessly in love with the beautiful, free-spirited Sheeni Saunders (Portia Doubleday). He gets his heart broken and in hope of winning her over, he creates an alter ego named Francois Dillinger.
The Nick Twisp character is like almost all of Michael Cera other characters and can best be descriped as akward - but he plays these akward types so brilliantly. But it is his alter ego Francois Dillinger that I most of all am looking forward to see.
Quote:
Francois says: "You're not gonna get this girl by sitting around listening to records. It is time to rebel Nick. It is time to be bad."

Crazy On the Outside
January 8, 2010 (USA)
Expectation level: 5.8
Genre: Comedy
Cast: Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Ray Liotta, J.K. Simmons, Julie Bowen, Kelsey Grammer, Jeanne Tripplehorn
Trailer
Tommy (Tim Allen) is fresh out of 3 years in jail and moves in with his sister (Sigourney Weaver) and her cynical husband (J.K. Simmons). To cover for Tommys whereabouts the last 3 years, his sisters has told their grandma that Tommy has been in France.
Quote:
Ed (J.K. Simmons): Statistically speaking - people who go to France and then get out of France, usually end up back in France.
What to expect? I think it has potential to entertain and there is definitely a few good laughs in it. I don't think it is gonna be anything out of the ordinary, but are you in the mood for some easy going and light hearted humor - it might just do the trick.

Saint John of Las Vegas
January 29, 2010 (USA)
Expectation level: 8.2
Genre: Comedy | Drama
Cast: Steve Buscemi, Sarah Silverman, Romany Malco, Peter Dinklage, Emmanuelle Chirqui
Trailer
John (Steve Buscemi) is a compulsive gambler who, after a long string of bad luck, leaves Vegas and takes a job for an auto insurance company in Albuquerque. John sees an opportunity to get a promotion, when asked to go along with the companys top fraud debunker Virgil (Romany Malco) to investigate a dubious car accident near Vegas. But what will happend when John returns to Vegas.
This movie has so much potentials, and it is a must see for me. Steve Buscemi is always fantastic when he plays these kind of roles. And even the poster is cool!
Quotes:
"They say you make your own luck... My name is John... and I am NOT lucky!"
"When I lived in Las Vegas, I had plenty of luck... the problem was, most of it was bad"

From Paris with Love
February 05, 2010 (USA)
Expectation level: 7.2
Genre: Action | Crime | Thriller
Cast: John Travolta, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Kasia Smutniak, Richard Durden
Trailer 1 | Trailer 2
Looks like an up-tempo action movie, spiced up with some (good/bad) one-liners and John Travolta as a bad ass US agent. And in my opinion... John is only good when he's bad.
--------------------
It’s Complicated
January 21, 2010 (Denmark)
Expectation level: 6.3
Genre: Comedy
Cast: Meryl Streep, Steve Martin, Alec Baldwin, John Krasinski, Lake Bell
Trailer 1 | Trailer 2
A mature comedy that actually looks promising. There is a lot of possibilities in the plot.
--------------------
Extraordinary Measures
January 22, 2010 (USA)
Expectation level: 7.2
Genre: Drama
Cast: Harrison Ford, Brendan Fraser, Keri Russell
Trailer
A drama centered on the efforts of John and Aileen Crowley to find a researcher who might have a cure for their two children's rare genetic disorder.
Has the potential to be a heavy drama with lots of emotions. The most interesting part for me, is to see if Brendan Fraser can pull of such a serious act (without me thinking of him in George of the Jungle).
--------------------
To Save a Life
January 22, 2010 (USA)
Expectation level: 7.0
Genre: Drama
Cast: Randy Wayne, Deja Kreutzberg, Joshua Weigel, Steven Crowder, D David Morin, Sean Michael, Bubba Lewis
Trailer
An all-star athlete and his girlfriend find their lives spinning out of control when Jake loses a childhood friend. Help comes when he reaches out to others who are hurting, and he realizes some people are just dying to be heard. How far would you go? How much would you risk? How hard would you fight…To Save A Life.
This could be a really good movie... or it could be too corny! But interesting plot.

Up in the air
the newest flick that has no other than Batmans own George Clooney!
See trailer here
well what can I say, I lasted the whole movie and considering that it was late in the evening, then it has to account for something.
For people who travel alot they can get alot of the jokes, and it even give good pointers about what to do and what not to do during travel, mainly in airports though.
I am not going to talk about acting or the director because they are all know for good shit and I don´t want to waste more time on it.
results:
kept me interested
+ some OK jokes
+ good for people studying HR (human resources)
- if you asked me in a week what it is about I most certainly have forgot it
- missing the hot chick
+ great music score by the way
= not worth the movie ticket but by all means rent it
